Coincidence?
ON my way to an appointment at the University of Chicago, I saw a good parking space, pulled over and parked. Looking up, I found Frank Lloyd Wright's Robie House directly across the street, not more than 40 feet away. I hadn't even known it was there.
I happily took a tour of the house, now owned by the Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust. Tom Beeby was on the tour with his students (that's not a coincidence — visit the Villa Giulia in Rome or a Wright hosue in Chicago and you'll run into architects). After the tour was a special event with chocolate and champagne.
The spaces in the house were inspiring. The urbanism, not so much: Wright wanted to make Wrightworld, not fit into the existing one. I give the art an A+, the urban design a C+
