And so we bid a fond farewell ...

The rainout on Friday and the makeup game on Saturday

I WENT to my first Yankee game of the season last night, which will also be my last Yankee game in the current Stadium. They only have 8 home games left, and for the first time in 14 seasons they won't be in the playoffs this year.

Engineers drastically altered the Stadium in 1972, under the guidance of Boss Steinbrenner. Yankee fans can't complain about the Steinbrenners' commitment to winning, but they have no taste, and the old stadium was immeasurably better. When asked about what he thought of the last season of the Stadium, the ever wise Yogi Berra said, "I don't know, I never played there." Who said aesthetics are just for effete architects?

But in its defense, I have to say that the field is still wonderful, always a pleasure to see when you come out of the vomitoria. The Yankees won 6 to 5 in a good game, Capt. Jeter played well, we got to see Joba in the 8th inning, and Mo saved the game in the 9th. A good time was had by all.
